Legend of Captain Billy

The name 'Captain Billy' is well known mainly due to Captain Billy Landing in Cape York, which is a picturesque place to visit on your Cape York journey.

Cape York Peninsula 4WD Safari ToursCaptain Billy Landing was named by Robert Logan Jack in March 1880 when Jack and his group were led there by a local Aboriginal calling himself 'Captain Billy'. Mr Jack was later attacked by a group of Aborigines lead by 'Captain Billy', just north of Camisade Creek. The mouth of the creek, named by Mr Jack, became the 'Port' for Heathlands Station.

Captain Billy Landing is 27 km's from the main road along a reasonably good track that meanders towards the coast. The coast offers a back-drop of white sand and bushland, making it an attractive place to visit. A walk along the white sands of Captain Billy Landing, or a chance to try your hand at fishing, is a 'must do' on any Cape York tour.
