surfing
Come on a long joyride inside super tubes
and perfect peeling waves at Raglan, our hottest surf spot.
This famous surfing nirvana has steep, full-on wave sets that
promise to get you fully amped on the longest ride of your life.
Surfing is a natural pursuit along New Zealands stunning
coastline as the Kiwi lifestyle revolves around the beach. During
summer from December to March Kiwis dont consider
theyve had a proper weekend without a swim or surf. Good
reliable surf breaks are common in all seasons and many beachside
surf shops and hostels hire out surfboards to visitors. So
its relatively easy to catch the perfect wave.
The North Island offers warmer waters and excellent beach, point,
reef and bar breaks at places such as Aucklands Muriwai and
Piha, Ahipara, Tauranga, Whangamata, Gisborne, Taranaki and
Wellington. The Wairarapa Coast is famous for its giant roller
coasters and gnarly rinse cycles.
In the South Island conditions are cooler and wet suits are
needed year round, but some awesome waves can be ridden at
exposed surf beaches like Kaikoura, Westport, Greymouth and also
Dunedin, where three-metre Pacific rollers become barrelling
waves as they pound the beach breaks.
The New Zealand surf is always up and waiting for you. So grab a
board and surf your heart out downunder. (also see Surfing
